So Much Better

imageWhat a difference a day makes. I feel a thousand times better than yesterday. Did the whole yoga session, had a good breakfast, took a shower, put new sheets on thenguest room bed, sorted paperwork into folders, gabbed on the phone and now it’s time for a rest. Jerry is heading out to go over to the YMCA and pick up a few things at the store.

I’m sitting in Anne and Clark’s reading room with the sun pouring in, wrapped in Mari’s shawl. I’m reading Amy Tan’s new book, not in love with it but it’s fine. I’m listening to Karen Fowler’s We Are All Beside Ourselves. I like it…not as much as Ann Patchett did (read her blog) but I do like it.

Be well, my friends. And those of you who are shoveling today, stay warm. It is SO cold everywhere today. And thank you, all of you, for your words of encouragement. Love to all of you.

  1. Be glad you are there instead of up here….FFFFFRRRREEEEZZZing! But now it’s bright and sunny so it makes it feel better….just like you! So glad you are feeling well today. xo

  2. so glad you are feeling better! I guess it’s going to be a bit of a roller coaster ride so do what you can and rest when you want to and know we are all thinking of you and Jerry! Martha

  3. Happy to hear you are feeling better today. So when you have a tough day, you can believe tomorrow will be better. Good news! Stay strong!

  4. Dad and Annette

Outside taking down Christmas decorations (4 degrees). The sun is out so it’s not so bad, although I thought of you and Gerry going to the beach. Glad to hear you are better. Love, Annette

  5. So glad you are feeling better today 🙂 !!!!

  6. I LOVE THE IRISH PROVERB!!! I’ll have to print that one out and hang it somewhere…possibly next to my bed! I have the new Amy Tan on my bedside, too. We can compare notes. 😀

  7. Read the Tan book earlier. Will wait to comment until you are finished. Glad to hear this is a better day. A few hardy souls made it to yoga at 8am. Wow. First time for my ears to be cold in Venice.

Mary-Glad you are feeling so much better today. I love the Irish proverb. So very true. Gorgeous here today–in the 50s, then headed for some cold, but nothing like the mid-West and NE. No complaints here. You are taking good care of thyself…JOB #1. Hard to do when you’re used to being the helper. With love, Wendie

  9. The storm was very polite up here in Western MA. Six dry inches and a cobalt blue sky today. The shoveling felt good, and I can snowshoe tomorrow! Laugh and rest. Such wise and simple advice. See, even when you’re down, you still find ways to teach us all. Some things just never change…thank goodness!

    • Hi Mary,
It’s hard to hold back when you are so used to going, going going, but listening to your body is the best medicine. The body is very wise and knows what it needs…so glad you are feeling more energetic today. I myself am bummed out about two days off added to vacation, would rather have it in a couple of weeks. Oh well! I am hoping to get some outdoor exercise when it warms up a little, maybe tomorrow.
Keep laughing and resting!!!! (and writing)
      Elaine

  10. My goodness, if that isn’t a great sunshine-sounding message – the warmth of a welcome report to us in frozen Indiana (our HIGH will be -9 on Monday!). So happy to read this, Mary, and I love the Irish proverb! Much love, Barb G.

  11. So glad to hear you are feeling stronger today. It is freezing here so I am glad you are somewhere much warmer! Stay strong. All my love to you.

  12. It is very chilly here in Florida and supposed to go below 38 on Sunday night! I hope all the prayers and good thought are warming you and helping you. Lots and lots to you, dear Mary.

  13. You made my day. So glad that you are feeling better. Remember to listen to your body as no one will give you better advice than it.

We’ve been out and about in the chilly Florida weather and enjoying the no snow. Ate at Ossario’s in Cocoa which is a lovely funky coffee, ice cream, sandwich and pizza shop made more famous by Obama during his last election.

It might be chilly but life is good.

Enjoy Amy Tan, the warmth of friends and good thoughts

  15. Laugh therapy and sleep, I am all in on these. It must be the Irish in me. Glad you are feeling better. Enjoy the beach!! I’ll be enjoying my winter wonderland. Sending you lots of love.

  16. So Glad you’re feeling a bit better. Get plenty of rest, as you know the treatments are exhausting. Take those treatments one day/one week at a time, knowing you are getting better with each one you complete. Stay positive and strong!! Thinking of you and sending prayers and love!

  17. Hi mary,
So cold up here the hairs in your nose stick together! This is the kind of weather we had when we were kids. Finished reading We Are Water, Wally Lamb. Disturbing, dysfunctional people, but lots of humor and makes you feel better about your own circumstances. Glad you are better today.
It will be tough going back to work on Monday, but looking forward to getting the year done and over with. Had a great time with Rosanna. Had dinner with Herbie and Barb on New Year’s Eve and now back in snowy, cold New England. Enjoy the beach…calm, peaceful and shows the power of God.

  18. Oh yes – 24 hours can work magic! So glad to hear this, Mary

  19. Roller coaster ride – and screaming is totally expected, maybe even required, sometimes. Unlike the rest of us normal ‘older’ types, you’re not used to a drop in energy or in being the receiver. It’s not easy to get used to, but listening to your body is key. You have an amazing group of friends – and that’s not by chance – who are all sending you and Jerry immense amounts of love and healing. You’re the receiver now – think of a huge satellite dish drinking it all in. (okay, enough ‘mom’ talking here) Just know, Mary, that we’re all with you on the roller coaster, loving you.

  20. I can only agree with all the beautiful thoughts of these amazing friends! Loved talking with you….keep smiling!!!

  21. Hope tomorrow goes smoothly for you , Mary, and you’re not too exhausted at the end of the day. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Houston and Florida are supposed to feel the deep freeze the next couple of days, so wear your warmest layers!! Keep smiling and hold on to that wonderful attitude!!
    Love, Rosanna
